Vetiver Oriental by Serge Lutens, Vetiver Oriental, released in 2004, is a classic, woodsy scent drenched in the rich aroma of the sweet grass native to India. Like other fragrances from this design house, the focus is on high-quality ingredients for a powerful and lasting impact.
Opening with top notes of green herby accords, woody branches, and iris, the cologne relaxes into the lush heart notes of vetiver combined with chocolate and guaiac wood, before finishing with smooth base notes of musk, labdanum, sandalwood, and amber. The fragrance is concocted by master perfumer Christopher Sheldrake.
Serge Lutens is masterful French artist who has found success across multiple fields, including hair styling, make-up design, cosmetics, photography, film, and perfumery. It was a partnership with Shiseido, a Japanese cosmetic company, that introduced Mr. Lutens to the perfuming industry. They commissioned him to create the fragrance Nombre Noir in 1982, but it was not until 2000 that the artist opened up his own perfume line.
