Donald and Doris Fisher founded The Gap in 1969, a retailer of trendy casual clothing based in San Francisco.

The store quickly became wildly successful, opening 25 stores in just four short years. The company then acquired Banana Republic, opened Old Navy and introduced Piperlime, followed by Athleta, a women’s sports clothing store. Ultimately, the corporation had 3,100 successful stores around the world. This brand is known for its activism, specifically the Product Red project, raising in excess of $170 million for the Global Fund to support charities that fight Aids, malaria and tuberculosis. They’ve launched several fragrances for men and women.
