In 1984, Donna Karan and her late husband established her American fashion brand. Karan was raised in the fashion industry by a tailor father and a showroom model mother, and in the 1970s she began designing for Anne Klein. After establishing her own brand, Karan proved herself to be an innovative addition to the fashion world with her collection of interchangeable women’s clothing that could be worn day or night.

The brand gained popularity throughout the following decades and expanded its product line with the Dkny label. These products included men’s fashion, activewear and younger women’s clothing. Fragrances and accessories were soon successfully added to the company lineup.
