German fashion house Hugo Boss was founded in 1924 in Metzingen, Germany. The company initially struggled in its first seven years, even filing bankruptcy due to economic conditions. In 1931, Boss became a member of the Nazi Party, which led to increased production, sales, and profits as the Nazi uniform provider. Boss was unable to continue running his business in 1946, due to his association with the Nazi Party, and died in 1948. His son-in-law, Eugen Holy, became owner of the brand and shifted it towards men’s ready-made suit production. By 1985, the business began publicly trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the first fragrance was launched.
