Liz Claiborne and her husband Arthur Ortenberg started their company along with partners Jerome Chazen and Leonard Boxer in New York City in 1976. The business saw immediate success when it tapped into the growing market of women entering the workforce. One of the things to set the company apart from other designers was its insistence that stores sell all its products in one location. This model has since been duplicated by many other brands.
