Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani first gained a wider following when Richard Gere's character wore his chic designs in the popular movie "American Gigolo," which was released in 1980. Best known for his menswear, he presented his first clothing lines for men and women in 1975 after various stints as a designer for a number of different fashion houses, including Nino Cerutti, coming a long way from his humble origins as a shop window designer. Fragrances for women have been released under the brand name since 1982.
